The Oikos Project

Thu 26th August 2010 - Sat 9th October 2010
Southwark, SE1
Series: London Festival of Architecture
Organised by: The Architecture Foundation, Red Room
Further information.

Oikos (pronounced ee-kos) is the root word of economy and ecology. Embracing these principles, The Red Room theatre company and The Architecture Foundation have embarked on an exciting theatre project: a unique mix of public-made art, architecture and performance that explores how a new sustainable society can flourish in a world altered by climate change.
This summer, on a Southwark playground, just minutes from the South Bank, award-winning Berlin-based artist Martin Kaltwasser has worked alongside volunteers to create The Jellyfish Theatre, London’s first fully-functioning theatre made entirely from recycled and reclaimed materials. A temporary structure, The Jellyfish Theatre will be made of materials from all sources: junked theatre sets, reclaimed timber from building sites, Covent Garden market pallets and old kitchen units that the public bring along.
The Red Room has commissioned two urgent and compelling eco-themed plays specially for performance in this unique venue:
Oikos by Simon Wu
26 August – 18 September
Protozoa by Kay Adshead
23 September – 9 October

Ticket Information: Tickets to both events on sale now through www.ticketweb.co.uk
