DEBATE
Speaking for the new RIBA Plan of Work: Dale Sinclair BArch MArch RIBA RIAS, Director of Dyer
Speaking against the new RIBA Plan of Work: Alfred Munkenbeck RIBA ACArch, Partner of Munkenbeck + Partners
The RIBA Plan of Work has become a recognised and respected road map for design, procurement and construction, both in the UK and abroad and with all its peculiarities has provided a model defining how architects should operate for generations. It has evolved subtly over the years, and the RIBA is now replacing its hallowed alphabetical stages with new numerical ones that are supposed to support the new government initiative of BIM and make the multiplicity of other service providers feel equally warm and wanted.
The next ACA Soapbox over mulled cider will debate this. Dale Sinclair, who has been instrumental in the development of the new Plan of Work, will defend the RIBA’s proposal. On the other hand, Alfred Munkenbeck, a highly respected practising architect who is passionate about his art, will propose the motion and explain his concerns.
